Journey Overview

Reports are intimidating by design. They don't have to be.

A psychoeducational evaluation runs 15 or 20 pages. It's full of percentiles, scaled scores, subtest names, and language no parent meeting prepared you for. The school often summarizes it in a single sentence: "scores are within the average range." That sentence can hide a lot.

This journey teaches you to read a real report the way an experienced evaluator does. Spot scatter. Find the jagged profile. Recognize when "low average" is actually fragile. Know what tests can and can't claim. You don't need to become a psychometrician. You need to know where meaning lives in a report and where to push back when it doesn't fit your child.

What changes after this journey

You will open a 15-page report and know where to focus. You will recognize the composite score trap and the low-average paradox. You will be able to point to specific patterns in your child's data and say what they mean — clearly enough for a school team to engage with, not dismiss.

Who This Journey Is For

If you have a report you don't fully understand, this is for you

You've received an evaluation report and stared at it not knowing where to start. You've been told your child's scores are "average" or "within range," but daily reality contradicts that. You've been in meetings where the team relied on a single number to make a decision and you didn't know what to ask. This journey is for any of those moments.

This journey works whether or not you've worked through Journey 1. If you have, the triangulation skill makes this content land faster. If you haven't, you can still use this journey to interpret a specific report — just expect more questions to come up about what to do next, and consider doubling back to Journey 1 when you're ready.

What You Will Gain

By the end of this journey, you will be able to

Open a 15-page evaluation report and know where to focus — which sections matter most, which are background, and which deserve follow-up
Read subtest scatter and recognize the "jagged profile" that hides inside a composite score
Spot when a low-average score is actually fragile performance, not reassurance
Reference IDEA Section 300.304 to push back when a team relies on a single measure to deny services
Journey Structure

Three sections, 3 required + 10 optional assets

0 of 3 required assets complete · 0 of 10 optional. The required path covers the anchor module, a procedural walkthrough of a real report, and the low-average paradox. Optional assets add alternative formats, deeper red-flag analysis, equity context, and consolidation PDFs.

You can read the report. Now understand the breakdowns.

You now know what tests measure, where meaning lives in a report, and why "low average" can be alarm zone. Journey 3 explains the cognitive mechanics behind why a kid who tests fine still falls apart in real classrooms.

Come back to this journey when a new report arrives, before an evaluation meeting, or whenever you need a refresher on what a score is — and isn't — telling you.

You can read the report

You've worked through the required path: what tests actually measure, the 15-page walkthrough, and the low-average paradox. You can now decode an evaluation report on your own and recognize when "average" is hiding a struggle. Journey 3 explains the cognitive mechanics behind those struggles.
